Concours d'Elegance & Car Shows
In the Arizona Region, our annual Concours d’Elegance is called Phoenix Flight. Held in late October or early November, Phoenix Flight has been held annually since 1977 (one of the longest running PCA events in the country) and has grown into the biggest Porsche event in Arizona. Phoenix Flight is a multi-event charity weekend highlighted by a Concours d’Elegance and awards banquet.
In simple terms, a Concours is a car show. The idea is to show your car in its most perfect condition (usually cleanliness and like-new condition). Each car starts out with a perfect 100 score if judges find imperfections they subtract points. Highest score wins.
There are different levels or types of Concours. For the more serious competitors there is full preparation. “Full” means judges examine every aspect of your car: interior, exterior, trunk, engine, and under-chassis. Judges look at everything, from your spare tools to the jack (remember those?). Nothing will go untouched. Trophies go to the cars with highest scores in various categories.
On the other end of the spectrum is the “Display Only” category if you simply want to participate in the car show. The cars are there just to be displayed and don’t compete for trophies.
